An Ohio grand jury will decide if Brittany Watts should be indicted for how she handled her dead fetus, in a case that's emblematic of the post-Roe era.

Brittany Watts miscarried 22 weeks into her pregnancy in September. The 33-year-old woman went to her doctor, who told her she would miscarry — and she eventually did.

Neither health care workers nor law enforcement officials dispute that Watts’ pregnancy loss was natural, and the coroner’s report determined that the fetus was uninjured. Yet, Watts is facing an abuse of corpse charge that has been in the hands of a Trumbull County, Ohio, grand jury since November.

    It breaks my heart a little that with a simple shift of a few years and a skin tone would’ve turned what was already the most painful period of my life into legal trouble. Fuck red states and the people who support their fundamentalist policies.
