It is possible to have a role in something without having control. And often it’s those who have a role but not control who can make or break an initiative.
Presidents have the power to put the brakes on legislation and to make suggestions. It’s up to congress to actually write it and refine it.
Same with decriminalization, student loan relief, taxing the wealthy, healthcare reform, requiring a speaking filibuster…
You agree that while Joe Biden couldn’t get the votes, that because a president does have influence, a better president may have been able to?
Because that’s the point. People said Biden would be able to be a good president because presidents just appoint people to do the work. And we all know now what happened with most of Biden’s appointments.
So if a president can accomplish things, that means we shouldn’t run another one in their 70s who just can’t keep up anymore, right?
I’m not just ahitting on a sad geriatric man here, I’m making the point that Biden wasn’t/isn’t up to the task, and we can’t afford another elderly moderate when the president does actually have power and can accomplish things.
Because “a role but no control” just sounds like getting all the honey and none of the bee stings.
Just swooping in to take credit, people generally dislike when upper management does that.
God damn, crap like this is why I hate saying I support progressives. I have to keep reminding myself that Internet progressives, Bernie or bust bros, non-pragmatic jackasses aren’t who most progressives are.
So you blame Obama for being a bad president too since he couldn’t get the public option in?
Do you blame progressives in the party that couldn’t make the case for BBB?
You don’t always get what you want 100% of the time and a decent amount of green energy that was under the BBB did get into the IRA after getting fucked by Manchin and yeah Biden was part of that progress of bringing that asshole to heel.
God, whiney ass progressives that just dismiss the good done for the lack of being perfect just pisses me off so much, stop being the enemy of progress and actually listen to what progressive leaders say and make progressive progress even if it’s just an inch.
Fucks sake, was Biden the best, most progressive president? Fuck no. Could he have some a lot better? Yes. But he did a lot of good, he did advance some progressive ideas, and strengthened the unions a bit.
With that answer I think you’re just a typical crappy Internet progressive.
Clearly you only care about your team, your ideological purity, and not making actual progress, you don’t care about complexity or how shit actually works in real life and don’t actually want to put any real effort in making change.

So Build Back Better not going thru…
That’s a failure on Biden or no?

Yeah, and for a lot of other stuff…
I think that’s the confusion and why you’re so upset with progressives.
It is a lot more complicated than cheering your “team” and booing everyone else. When things get complicated, frustration is a natural reaction.
