Oppenheimer has been out for a long time.

If a bit over a year is a “long time” then I’m a lot older than you lol.

It is what James Woods is most known for

uh, whhhat? that is certainly not true. I’ve known of him for like 20 years as a (shitty) actor and had no clue he was involved with Oppenheimer whatsoever, despite seeing that movie in the theater. From IMBD:

In some ways, the executive producer isn’t super involved anyhow. My understanding is that they just drum up money and try to persuade suits that a picture should be made. I’m sure he got paid 100 times his worth though…

I doubt any of those movies are currently more known than Oppenheimer. The listed movies have James Woods participating as an actor. Whereas with Oppenheimer, James was bankrolling it. Executive producers can have more influence than producers. It depends whether they decide to be hands-on or only see the movie as an investment.

You can see right there in the IMDB screenshot they use the same language you did (“known for”). I think IMDB has their finger on the pulse of how people talk about entertainment. Many people in the movie industry are most known for things from years ago but still work frequently. Like would you say Christopher Lloyd is most known for whatever semi-popular thing from the last couple of years he had a role in, or Back to the Future?

You are right that EP’s vary in involvement, but even if I had known he was EP in that film, I still would’ve had the same question I originally asked.

Anybody who thinks Christopher Loyd’s legacy is from The Mandelorian needs an iPadless TimeOut.

Well I don’t know that he’s “known for” John Carpenter’s Vampires. Especially since most people didn’t understand the awesomeness of basically 90 minutes of pure vampire ass-kicking and the movie tanked. But anyway, that is his “most known for” credit.

I mean… How about Casino? How about Nixon? How about Contact? Even Once Upon a Time in America is more notable than that. He was even nominated for two Oscars (Salvador and Ghosts from the Past) and neither of those apparently count as more notable than John Carpenter’s Vampires.

I mean fuck James Woods, but the IMDB is ridiculous.

I can agree with you that the way imdb ranks those “known for” works is wonky at times, but iirc you can click the heading and see a longer list and though the ranking is still weird, it usually does list the movies I would expect.

James Woods is one of those actors I’ve heard mentioned many times and seen in movies occasionally but I’ve not thought too much about him. In this case I saw movies in the list that I had heard of so it didn’t strike me as the wonkiest but I’ll take your word for it.

I’m just saying… two Oscar nominations weren’t mentioned, a movie that bombed at the box office and almost no one remembers got the number one spot.

This does kind of make me want to see if Vampires holds up as a movie now.

Oppenheimer may be well known, but I don’t know if anybody had any idea it was produced by James Woods. He’s not known for that movie by any stretch.
