by way of a tangent, the android fucking mess there resolved in me nearly putting my computer through a window

over the years I’ve found many reasons to dislike google, but good god that little excursion gave me a whole fresh set

it definitely deserves a longer form article sometime! it’d be very informative to look into how proto-TESCREAL (cyberlibertarian) influences shaped attitudes on psychedelics (including my own) and find the point where the idea of taking psychedelics went from “they’ll make you a better (more egalitarian/antifascist) person” to “they’ll make you a more efficient capitalist monster”.

there are important overarching questions too — how long have fascist groups used psychedelics as an effective tool for indoctrination and control? why do some indoctrination attempts involving psychedelics succeed and others have the opposite of the intended effect? I’ve got the gut feeling that the answers to those questions tie in with the change in ideals I mentioned.

I don’t really miss the “psychedelics make you a better person” narrative. Mostly it just seems like some people perceive themselves as more egalitarian or antifascist after taking psychedelics.

i think it happened somewhere around the time when microdosing got popular as an idea since that made psychedelics more palatable for normies. 2015ish i think?

I imagine Sam lecturing wasted teenage me at a party about the logical efficiencies of getting high on psychedelics vs beer and cigarettes. I’m trying to focus on his face while he just talks and talks and I’m teetering and sweating and he just keeps talking

You guys aren’t gonna like to hear this, but being super wealthy and successful is always going to confer some degree of cool.

That being said it doesn’t sound like they are doing this because they think it’s fun/sexy. The users in this article all seem to frame their usage in the context of mental health. While the merits are questionable, it’s objectively better than some Wall Street exec doing coke or slamming booze. I feel like a better article would be questioning government policy that allows billionaires to experiment with psychedelics, but ensures that an actual FDA approved treatment that the average joe could access will never happen.

I can’t help but notice these authors all exclusively focus on tech, while giving other high compensation and influential industries a pass. It really feels like a ton of journalists have a personal vendetta against tech that goes beyond the substance of any of their actions.

LOL no-one who is really fucking rich is “cool”.

Look at the world’s richest people. Felon. Zuck. Saltman. Warren Fucking Buffet.

They’re about as cool as used toilet paper.

The uncomfortable truths I was referring to was a culture of anti male sexism in parts of the democratic party, as well as a consistent minimization of issues affecting young men.x

this is basically the only thing they post about, what the fuck

I swear I need to stop reading Lemmy. Every second I stay on here is a second I get closer to staying home on election day out of pure spite.

hello fellow democrats all this anti-male sexism in our party is making me want to not vote haha am I right or am I right???

      Sure
More often than not it’s a negative degree, though.

      So cool.

(Also, success is extremely relative; ask the previous example’s children how successful he is as a father figure, for instance…)
