Redgif links all show as “failed to load media” both in the feed and when viewing the post. The only way to view the these links is to leave the app and open the post in a browser.
I remember they worked for a while so perhaps Voyager just needs a new API key or something.
Voyager doesn’t have a global API key, it requests a temporary one per device. There are limits, but not really clear, really depends on what redgifs feels like doing.
I do plan on exposing the error message received from redgifs for more clarity in the future
if you chill on the porn for a day or so it should start working again 😜
I haven’t opened voyager for a couple days now and the embeds still don’t work. When I first noticed the issue, I hadn’t used this account in weeks.
Do you have a specific post example you can share?
I find that anything by @[email protected] gives the error. I don’t need to tap the post to see the error either, it gives the failed to load media error in my feed, which is set to Large, and to blur NSFW.
It’s only today that I’ve seen the error and been able to then use my PC immediately to check the post there and found out that it’s a redgifs link. Opening the post on Android still just shows the error, and not the link.
Turning off Embed External Media shows the redgifs link instead, but I haven’t seen any other embedded media yet.
Thanks for the report. I find this happens on voyager as well. I find the behaviour working on boost for Lemmy which is my primary tool.
The link in the op consistently reproduces the issue for me.
That’s strange, it works for me.
I forgot to mention that this is the native android app from Google Play. I’ve tried clearing cache, clearing all data, and even reinstalling voyager. I get the same results:
- enable embedding external videos in settings
- open the link on the op
- tap the prompt to enable embeds from redgifs
- immediately get “failed to load media”
Works for me if I click the thumbnail from ‘all’; fails if I go to the post.
Not just redgifs (iirc) either so probably a video thing rather than an NSFW related thing.
If the domain could be displayed in the list view, then it would be immediately apparent why it is not loading and you can move on.
(I’m OK with not seeing Redgif stuff, but a lot the time they don’t show ‘failed to load’ for a while, so you think it may be some image still loading.)
Are you In a US state with an age verification law? I get the same thing and I think it’s due to red gif blocking IP addresses from my state due to these laws.
tested on a VPN and same result
Same result for me in the UK
Nope, no verification laws in my state. I can see the embeds fine in the web UI.
