Was on a flight a few months ago, and when we landed, no clapping - dead quiet. Out of the silence, I heard a, what must have been, six year old shout really loudly “WE DID IT!”.
that 6 year old clearly needs to learn the importance of silence. A commercial airliner deserves no praise, flights are no more special than train rides or bus rides.

I celebrate my bus rides and thank the driver every single ride. We need more positivity for everyone providing services we rely on.
I thank the driver too, but I don’t think they’d take it as a compliment if I showed relief that they didn’t crash.
If the bus went 600 miles an hour and every one on board might die because a duck decided to take flight at the wrong time? Then ya I think there would be some serious celebration every time the bus stopped.

I learned clapping was unappreciated the day of this week’s plane crash, that I was scheduled to land at same airport that day. My reply is that us normal people are just happy to land upright. We all clapped when landing the next day.

I would argue that the one that exploded over DC last month had almost certainly ceased to be a plane by the time it hit the ground.
If you watch the more recent footage you can clearly see most of the plane slowly cartwheeling through the sky into the water. It was still mostly a plane.

For personal, I can tell you that photos tell the story pretty well. There are people there already taking the photos. You don’t need a selfie there, just use the Gimp. For everything else in the modern world, it all looks pretty close to how it looks at home.
There’s no need to travel. Specially within your country. Its not like high speed trains are any safer. And cars…what’s next the entire planet is a big ass road?

Nope. I wanna keep it that way. I’ve flown on 737’s where the engines keep making little sparks the entire flight… As an ex solarturbines engineer I can tell you that that’s not normal and can lead to flying blades which can slice right thru the plane body and you like butter. They have a cover around the blades that is supposed to stop them. But I don’t trust it since I haven’t seen the test videos at vehicle speed. But that’s just one minor issue. I’ve been on a plane landing in Bohol the Philippines where some “minor” damage was promptly patched using duct tape.
My job used to take me places. That’s probably the only reason to travel… For science, education, or for a job. Not for going to another sushi place or to see a building or a pyramid. The worse travel is for nothing… Carnival cruise ships. And also for things… China made stuff you buy from temu.
in order to visit one side of my family, which lives over 1000 miles away, a plane is by far the most convenient and fastest method.
That may be true. My sister lives on the east coast and I’m on the northWest. My mom and other siblings live south.
I don’t go visit on the weekends. I got shit to do. Just give them a call. They probably got shit to do too. Lol.
I only go a couple times a year, but it’s still nice to have the convenience of 12 hours of travel instead of more than a day.
