This Canadian federal election maybe the most consequential for Americans in recent history, so it might be worthwhile explaining how things work above the 49th parallel.
Just because it is slightly better than the worst doesn’t mean that it is the best
We have a good system here in Canada but it is far from representative of a full democracy that fully embraces the whole will of the people. At our current level, our system represents about half of the population and that half can be fully ignored if our corporate owners want to silence parts of our government if it affects financial profits and losses.
Our system might be better but it is still governed by money and power and not by the people.

We keep things simple, electorally. And so far, we have never had a situation where the losers refuse to accept the outcome.
