I think people really only started noticing it during and after the pandemic.
I have always hated people’s lack of consideration. I have always been very aware of it and it has always stayed the same (at least since the 27 years I am here).

I pay 1k for roughly 740 square feet / 69 m2. Covid didn’t change anything. It’s wild that things can be so vastly different for two similary rich countries (I kinda assume the post is in the USA).
Based on the context, the way it is written and the comment it is answering it’s more likely they were saying “how are those things bad if our ancestors have eaten them for thousands of years”

Edit: maybe you mixed up the word “ethical” with something else?
