I do like the repost day idea.

The problem with all of this is we need moderators. I’m the only one that checks in as far as I know and I haven’t been here for 5 days. There’s nobody that wants to do the work.

I was thinking about this again today. I think what we’ve seen with CYOA styles without an economy element, but pick one for each scenario is more in line with what should be allowed, but no, not the simpler style with only 2 or 3 celebrities in a given post or just APM.

That’s the kind of thing I was asking about people’s opinions on. We could even have no limits on new, original content, but suggest a limit on reposts. Or just have a generous limit, like 5 per day.

I’ve always preferred rules simply for the sake of clarification, so everyone knows what is and is not acceptable to post, not to be more restrictive. I’m definitely leaning toward leniency and not even suggesting a so many strikes and you’re banned policy at this point, but the rules are there to let folks know why a post might get removed.

I’m also in agreement with allowing as much as possible and building up the community, if everyone else is on board. It’s not the Reddit of old where you could go to one of a half dozen other popular pick a celeb type communities. Essentially the important rules we’ve always had are in line with LemmyNSFW’s rules, such as no minors or fakes and AI altered images, and the latter since that can cause legal issues.

What do you think of the rules as they stand? I’m thinking of only banning people if they, after being warned more than once, continue to harass or insult other members and their posts, to avoid unnecessary negativity in the community. That was pretty rare, but did happen on occasion, on Reddit. Maybe if someone intentionally and repeatedly posts content against the rules also.

This isn’t an economy game, but we’ve really been off the rails lately, so I’m going to permit these for now. We need to decide as a community if we want this kind of content going forward or not. I’d like to get a couple more moderators too, but I’m going to be busy for a week, so won’t be doing much besides popping on to check in.

The community is still private, likely until the new moderators learn the standards they’ll need to follow, so you’ll need to request and wait for approval.

A little of both. It’s hard to say if the Reddit admins will allow any form of celebrity economy to exist on Reddit, so our Lemmy community here is more important than ever, but for those people who just can’t quit Reddit and don’t mind the games being watered down, then you can still play games there. Then, your “punishment”, if you aren’t following the new guidelines on Reddit, will be banned on the Reddit community and told to come to Lemmy.

Hi everyone, while we’re going to be more active here on Lemmy, it was decided to try to maintain a presence on Reddit too, if that new community doesn’t get banned. We’ve handed over leadership of Reddit’s mod team to hemanescamilla after helping set everything up. We’d like at least one more moderator there to help out. Given the current state of Reddit, posts are going to be manually approved there and basically be void of any sexual language, so the main job will be looking for that and approving posts acceptable for Reddit and rejecting (and recommending Lemmy) to posts that are too sexual.
