        It’s not about it working. It’s about creating a narrative in their own head where they are the victim even if it’s a complete fabrication. Then they can pin all their recent troubles on something that isn’t their fault. “That asshole gave me a thumbs up, then went back on it! I needed that thing for success, and he’s the reason that didn’t happen.”

          You imply it’s intentional, meanwhile it seems far more likely they’re too stupid to realize their error and double down due to narcissism making them think they’re infallible.

        My mother-in-law. She rewrites history in her head and imagine stories where she’s the hero that didn’t actually happen.

        It’s a coping mechanism to prevent her having to face and work on her own problems.
