On the one hand, gun violence is bad.

    On the other hand, ACAB.

Sigh. If only people had more rights than guns in this country and we could use this as a reason to actually give even a tenth of a shit about gun control.

Unfortunately, people of color can never give an inch on “gun control,” if we do, that will certainly end catastrophically for us. Many have been swayed by the emotional argument, but the reality is that the source of the majority of gun control has been intended to disarm minorities and subject us to white terrorists that aren’t held accountable to the same laws. Though I’m not a proponent of violence, I will violently defend my right to arms, because without it, the whites will not be held to account by the same laws, and will come to eradicate me and mines.

…Aided and abetted by the police, who are also conveniently except from nearly all gun restrictions and legislation. No points for anyone guessing that the favorite target of the police is also (predominantly black) minorities. Neither of these details are a coincidence.

Exactly. You don’t have to look hard or far to find evidence of this. I’ll never give up my arms, though I prefer never to use them on another human, I’ll die with them in my hands.

If you think that legally owning a couple assault rifles gives you a chance against people in full body armor with armored vehicles and the support of the military then I have a sweet deal on a bridge for you.

So maybe don’t use systemic racism as a defense for your fetishes. It is a truly disgusting thing to do

Easy for someone protected by white institutions to say. I’m not a fetishist, and I don’t believe that I stand a chance against a modern military (my weapon of choice isn’t the made-up “assault rifle,” but my bolt action). The reality is, I’d rather be dead than go to a camp or be tortured/raped to death by fascists.

Take your disgusting, privileged ass bullshit elsewhere.

Preach. I’ll die on my feet before I serve on my knees. A good bolt action will almost guarantee you’ll take a few with you. Right thru their body armor.

The thing about values and integrity is that these things aren’t up for debate. My decisions been made, it is part of what I consider me, outcomes be damned. There is no future for me separated from my values. I accept whatever peace, wealth, misfortune, violence or death that that brings me.

And modern war, by the time America is involved, boots on the ground, will be over as soon as it starts. You really think a sufficiently equipped, advanced tech military like ours is gonna roll thru street by street, house by house.

Naw man. It’s gonna be all artillery and then kill all life sweeping murderdrones. If you don’t know several ways to mask your IR emissions, right now, then you’re already not a serious combatant.

Right, but doesn’t the second part contradict your entire point? If it’s over before it starts, then that just kind of backs up the argument of the person you’re arguing against? I’m not making a point either way, just a third party observer…

I agree that a modern military would fuck us up in no time. Which is why a bolt action rifle would be useless. Is that not exactly what the person above was saying?

You are both saying the same thing.

I just want to make things clear:

They are using systemic racism as an excuse to rub their… “barrel” over some death cult fantasy about the end of the world.

I am calling anyone who would use racism to justify the constant innocent deaths in this country to widespread and uncontrolled firearms a delusional monster.

And they still seem to think they are going to HOLD THE LINE with their bolt action (I hear Ziga at Polenar did okay with one when he was larping a few months back…) rather than probably just shoot a kid when they get antsy after watching too much of whatever propaganda they get off to.

Now, if they were looking for suggestions on cheaper and less destructive ways to commit suicide then…

You aren’t hearing a fucking thing we’re saying, you’re just on some soapbox repeating yourself instead of trying to understand anyone else.

You will change absolutely ZERO minds that way So congratulations, whatever moral high ground you might think you have, at the end of the day, you’re still the only one with it. You’re a credit to your cause.

No one has a violent fantasy here. No ones glorifying violence or even wants it here. You need to understand that first, cuz anything you say that betrays that understanding throws your entire ted talk out the window.

I WISH I lived in a world where I could trust everyone. Or at minimum, that I could trust the police. I am my most likely to die when I am around a police officer, even when I am unarmed. The good guy with a gun gets 58 bullets just the same, that means, if violence finds me, it’s on ME to handle it, and end it, as fast and as lethal as possible, cuz I need that weapon stripped and laid out on the lawn before the police show up.

You know, if i want to survive the hypothetical exchange, that I didn’t ask for.

Live your life how you want, you can hope and pray and close your eyes and say it won’t happen to you. I can’t afford that luxury.

Thank you. I’m not saying I seek violent confrontation, that I’ll win violent confrontation. I’m saying there are lines that I’ve set, where violent confrontation is the only option. I’m a proponent of nonviolence where possible, and I do believe it is possible, though where it isn’t possible, I’d rather die than be subjugated. Artillery or gunfire, I’ll take the death on my feet because the other options are horrific.

    estranged son*

The police chief issued a statement Saturday confirming his son was the suspect in the shooting. Drake said they were estranged and over many years he has had only minimal contact with his son. The younger Drake is a convicted felon who “resorted to years of criminal activity,” he said.

Between a decade+ on reddit and now here on lemmy I’ve learned most of the time when someone’s whining about a headline or insinuating that the media is purposefully misleading they’re just upset that headlines don’t contain the entire article. Which is obviously a very stupid criticism. It’s surprisingly common but it’s stupid all the same.

i dunno. I have read a lot of articles that could be summed up with a decent headline. They really puff up the articles these days with pointless words.

Including elements that aren’t necessary, but more sensational, is quite misleading. Including facts as to who his father is, isn’t pertinent.
